Ding was a cooking vessel in the Shang and Zhou period.  It was used daily in earlier times; later it become one of the important ritual vessels and the symbol of power.  This ding has three dragons as the feet, uniquely designed.  The main pattern on the body is cicada.  In the minds of the ancient people, cicada is a sacred creature that can be reborn, for it can cast off its skin every year.  Therefore it was regarded as a sacred creature and worshipped by people at that time.  The cicada cast on the bronze indicates their wish of rebirth.
