9.5" x 9.5" x 13" It is painted with blue-and-white designs under the glaze. There appear fierce and robust dragons amidst clouds coupled with turbulent waves. It is hard to tell whether the dragons fly through clouds or waves. This was a perfect piece of work in terms of blue-white underglazed paintings. The making of underglaze blue is to first paint the design with cobalt; then apply a layer of transparent glaze over the body. The last step is to
fire at a high temperature. This type of underglaze blue ware was produced as early as the Tang dynasty. In the Qing dynasty, cobalt, the blue color pigment was locally made so the color was fresh and light.
