Yaobian Bamboo Vase
The modeling is of primitive simplicity and
unsophisticated nature. It is chiefly in purplish red glaze. Various
tints such as light blue and moon white are revealed in the glaze. This
gives one the feeling that the glaze colors seems to flow by themselves
and mingle with one another, which enhances the nature beauty of the
vase. The craftsmanship consists of glazing twice or many times the
fired body of the ware and baking it in a low-temperature oven to make
it a finished product. As the ingredients of the glaze contain copper
for the most part and minute quantities of coloring elements, such as
cobalt, titanium, manganese and iron, in the process of firing, when the
grains of these metals combine freely, sky-like marks in various shades
are naturally produced on the porcelain, and when they mingle with the
red glaze, the gorgeous hue of the jar is formed. |
